Last updated October 30, 2026. FirstTry is a product of Amanah.
This page covers the FirstTry website (firsttrydmv.com) and the FirstTry apps for iPhone and Android.
Website: what we collect
FirstTry works without an account. Your answers, progress and language choice stay in your browser's local storage on your device.
We count anonymous events so we know what works: page views, how many of the free questions you answer, tests started, passed or failed, taps on the Pass Pack and share buttons, the state you picked, the short tag of the link that brought you (for example short-ca from one of our videos), questions reported as mistakes, and where you heard about us if you tell us. These counts carry no name, email, IP address or device ID.
School codes
If you use a code from your driving school, we store that code with a random ID your browser makes for FirstTry, so the code works on one device only. That ID is not linked to your name, email or IP address, and clearing your browser's site data removes it from your device. When a driving school buys passes or the school plan, Stripe processes the payment and we receive the checkout session, including the school name and email the school enters, to show the school its codes and to send the plan's videos.
Website: payments
If you buy the Pass Pack or the CDL Pass on the website, Stripe processes the payment. We receive the checkout session to confirm the payment and activate the purchase on your device. The checkout carries the same link tag, so we know which link led to a purchase. We do not see or store your card number. Stripe's privacy policy applies to the payment itself.
iPhone app
The FirstTry iPhone app works without an account and sends nothing to us. It has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, so none of the anonymous counting above happens in the app. Your progress, test date and language choice are stored only on your iPhone. If you buy the Pass Pack or the CDL Pass in the app, Apple processes the payment through the App Store and the app checks the purchase on your iPhone; we do not see your name, your Apple ID or your payment details. If you report a mistake, your email app opens a message to us, and we see only what you choose to send. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
Android app
The FirstTry Android app works without an account and sends nothing to us. It makes no network requests, so none of the anonymous counting above happens in the app, and it has no ads or tracking. It sells nothing: every test is free, so the app has no purchases and does not use Google Play Billing. Your progress and language choice are stored only on your phone and are left out of Android backups. If you report a mistake, your email app opens a message to us, and we see only what you choose to send. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored.
Sharing
We do not sell or share personal information. Our host (Cloudflare) and payment processor (Stripe) process data only to run the website. Apple and Google run their app stores under their own privacy policies.
Children
FirstTry is a study tool for people getting a driver's permit, usually 15 and older. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices
Clearing your browser's site data removes everything FirstTry stored on your device.
